INDIE 500: What The World Needs Now
By June 5, 07:48 AM
While the rest of the world is OD’ing on Lil’ Wayne leaks I’ve been scouring the ‘net for some alternative sounds from the not so underground (unless you count the fiber optic lines most music travels on these days). Even though Jean Greezy is sadly retiring her potty mouth from the rap game her long-awaited collabo with 9th Wonder, JEANIUS, is now available on Itunes. For those of you still playing the leak from eons ago you need to get up on the official joint. Only thing it's missing is the “Love Thirst” remix featuring Busta Rhymes. Jean, when’s the next BBQ??
Seems that MTV is loosening its bowels and allowing some real shit to make it onto the tube. QN5’s Substantial was able to get his video for “It’s You” from his album Sacrifice, to break into regular MTV rotation after debuting on Sucker Free Sundays:
Peep his producer Tonedeff’s proud reaction at the QN5 blog.
After a three-year break J-Live is back with his fifth (if you count his debut, The Best Part, that never "officially" came out ) solo LP Then What Happened? JazzyJeff, Evil Dee, Oddisee, Floyd The Locsmif, DJ Spinna, Nicolay and DJ Numark from Jurassic Five handle the beats for J’s latest. “The Understanding” and “The Upgrade” featuring Posdnous and Oddissee are tied for my favorite right now.
Take a sec to peep the new video by EMC (Masta Ace Wordsworth, Punchline and Strik), “Leak It Out” with Trackmasters producer The ARE on the beat.
So until next time, I'll leave you with an image of what happens when great MCs retire and have way too much time on their hands. Jean, come back!
